What is the Learning Center?

Have your grandchildren just bought you a new computer so you can keep in touch with them by e-mail or web cam? Do your kids want to send you digital pictures electronically? Or, did you just buy yourself a new computer so you could see for yourself what all this Internet fuss is about? However it arrived, you now have your new computer and have pushed the on-off switch for the first time and are maybe wondering how to take advantage of this new high technology marvel.

No need to panic, by taking one of the many classes provided by our dedicated volunteers at the Gold Country Computer Learning Center, you will soon be exploring the Internet and sending e-mails like a professional. Grass Valley is lucky to have this facility within the Community Center at the Fairgrounds on McCourtney Road. The mission of GCCLC (a nonprofit organization), is to provide adults with education for, and access to, computer technologies to enhance their lives and enable them to share their knowledge and wisdom. The organization is based on the concept that older people are not averse to using new technology, just unfamiliar with it and offer computer classes specifically designed for adults about computers and the Internet. Once computer "newbies" have access to the new tools and the knowledge of how to use them, technology can enrich their lives. If you are already enjoy using your computer, why not share that knowledge by volunteering.

Members learn and teach others to use computers and communications technologies to accomplish a variety of tasks. They learn to touch up photos as well as send and receive them by e-mail, desktop publish anything from a newsletter to an autobiography, manage personal and financial records, communicate with others across the country and the world and serve their communities. GCCLC members share a desire to continue learning and a willingness to contribute their knowledge to others while having fun.

Classes range from absolute basics to word processing, spreadsheets, the Internet and e-mail through to advanced classes on managing digital photographs and genealogy. If you're an absolute beginner with a new computer, or have already mastered the basics but need to move on to the more advanced uses, then why not have a look at GCCLC. Class sizes are small, with a computer for every student. A manual or text book is provided, along with skilled instructors and coaches. So, not only is the learning interactive, but is also very enjoyable. To get more information or enroll call 273-0497, or visit us at the GCCLC, Nevada Co Fairgrounds Gate 2, 11350 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley. So, take a class now and make that scary piece of technology both useful and a source of fun and enjoyment.
