Seminars are held the 3rd Friday of the month, 10:00am-12:30pm and are given by one of our technical staff. They provide in depth coverage of a single subject with handouts/notes. Seminars are presentations - rather than a "hands on" class. Workshops on the other hand (see here), are like a single lesson class - with one student per computer.

Pre-registration preferred. (If you forget, come anyway) To register now, click this button Click to register for seminar.

If you have any ideas for Seminar or User Group subjects you'd like to see, please let us know using this form. Just fill in your ideas in the "Comments" box.

Missed a presentation? Then Click Here to download many of the presentations and/or handouts from a previous Seminar, Workshop or User Group meeting. One of our most popular seminars is cleaning and tuning your computer, and there is now available a series of step-by-step videos, that demonstrates exactly how to perform each section of the handout. User Group meetings are held on the 1st Friday of every month 10:00am-12:00pm. The first half of the meeting (45 min) is a short discussion on a selected subject - led by one of our "techies". The second half of the meeting is an opportunity to ask our "panel of experts" any question about your computer or hi-tech problem!

User Group meetings are open to everyone, and it's FREE!

User Group Meetings:

"Best Practices for internet and email" by a team of our 'techies'

Friday, July 10th, 10:00am-12:00pm - Computer Learning Center
date change(Note one time change of date to avoid the July 4th week)

This User Goup is based on feedback from one of our students that our "experts" give their thoughts and best practices for using the internet and email. Each member of the panel will give their advice on a subject for 5-8 minutes, uninterrupted by any of the of the other panel members!

Then the the other techies can quickly comment if they have different thoughts on the subject. Of course, the audience can ask a question at any time. Here's the subjects:

  • Nancy M. - email alias, Laptop wireless practice when traveling
  • Jeff S.- use of passwords; what data to NOT put on a laptop
  • Gary W. - what to back up
  • Roger T.- using the internet; using virtual credit cards

The idea is to hear the different thoughts from a few experts and let the audience make their own decisions as to what might be best for them.

Followed by a general question and answer session.

Why not come along with some of Your favorite questions - Q&A - Nancy M, Roger T, Jeff S and Gary W.

Help us know how to help you.

  • What are your interests?  We learn from each other and welcome your suggestions.
  • Q&A will follow on any computer-related subject. Bring a friend. Refreshments promised!

Everyone welcome - and it's FREE!

Upcoming Seminars are:

"MS Office Products - Access" - presented by Jim March

Friday, July 17th, 10:00-12:30pm - Computer Learning Center

One of the more popular programs in Microsoft Office is the document formatting program Word. Office also comes with other powerful software tools. In this two-part summer seminar, GCCLC is presenting an overview of two Microsoft products: Excel and Access. Here is an opportunity to learn how these tools can be of interest and help you manage your personal finances or small business activities.

In July, the focus will be on Access, the MS database tool. Join us for demonstrations of practical uses of Access at home and in the office. You will learn what a database is, and when a database application is more appropriate than a spreadsheet. Examples will include building a personal calendar, and managing a small business with both services and products. Jim March hosts this seminar.

With these overviews, you will be prepared for a classroom experience to design and build your own solutions.
