Volunteering
The volunteers are the most important resource of the Gold Country Computer Learning Center. It’s the volunteers who make the Learning Center a reality. Only a few hours a week can make a big difference, but you can get as involved as you like. No matter what your background and experience may be, there is a volunteer activity just waiting for you.
If you are interested in a fun, friendly and rewarding environment, take a look at the list below and contact Karen by phone (470-0270), e-mail, or our on-line form to volunteer.
Instructors – If you have comprehensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Internet, Windows, graphics, digital photography etc., perhaps you’d like to share it with others. All instruction manuals are provided. You only need to teach.
Coaches – Do you know how to use a computer? We need coaches who assist the instructors and help students during classes. All that’s needed is basic knowledge of computer programs, how to perform simple computer tasks (i.e. save, cut, paste, format, send and receive e-mail, surf the internet, etc.) and a willingness to help others.
Lab Monitors – Several times a week, we hold open labs. During these times students can come in and use the computers to work on class assignments or personal items. We need volunteers who can oversee the lab sessions and help the students who have questions. This requires knowledge of software and basic computer commands.
Administrative – Perhaps you worked in an office or did marketing or PR and miss the activity. We need volunteers to maintain databases, register students, send out mailings/e-mails, design flyers, arrange publicity, write articles, organize events and much more.
Technical – If you understand the technical side of computers, both hardware and software, then you might be interested in joining our Technical Support Staff. We need volunteers who understand how to load and set-up software, work with networks, troubleshoot problems, maintain network security, etc.
We also need people who understand web site construction, evaluating software, writing instruction manuals, so you can see the possibilities are endless.
If any of these opportunities sound interesting to you, please e-mail or phone (470-0270) Karen , or fill out our on-line form.
