Workshops

constructionDefinition according to Webster:

Workshop n. = a seminar emphasizing free discussion, exchange of ideas and practical methods, skills and principles.

Typically, our workshops are 2 hours long. Some topics can not be adequately covered in 2 hours so the workshops may be extended in 2 hour increments. The topics can be as varied as the presenter has information and interest to share.

This is not a lecture; we want our students to have hands on experience at the computer as well as to leave with a sense of accomplishment and better understanding of the subject.

We hope to pique the interest of participants, so that all will bring good ideas, questions, curiosity and eagerness to share in the project.

Presenters will handout an outline of the workshop, along with a CD containing program information or material that will supplement the written plan if necessary/applicable.

The cost of the workshop is $10 per 2 hour session, on a first come, first serve basis. The date, time and topic will be posted here,on our website or call Carol for details at 273-3029

Backing up your Data

For the few that haven't heard me say this - your hard drive is just like you and me - it will die - we just don't know when! The typical lifetime for a hard drive is 5 years - but could be a lot less. And when it does, so will your photos, email, letters - in fact all of the files you've created and saved on your computer wil be lost.

In this workshop you will learn how to backup all your data files. We will use CD's, USB flash drives and external hard drives and freeware software.

Image your hard drive - the ultimate protection

Do you ever wish you could restore your computer to when it was running well? This is exactly what making an image of your hard drive allows you to do. Whether you catch a virus, get infected with spyware or your computer has just ground to a snails pace, in 20 minutes, you can restore your computer to exactly as it was when you made your image.

We will use shareware to and freeware to create and restore a partition image.

This is an advanced workshop. You should only attend if you already know what is a disk partition and know how to use a bootable CD.
